Introduction

One Month Checkup

So it’s already been a month.  Wow.

You know, when I started SuperBlogTime I had absolutely no clue what I was doing.  I didn’t know much about blogs, had no idea how to get a website registered and hosted and certainly had never heard of WordPress.  Considering all of that, I think SuperBlogTime is coming along great!

What Have We Done So Far?

  • We’ve had some fun with our first international visitors (Canada, England and Sweden). As of today, we can add Indonesia, South Africa, Nigeria and the Philipines to the list.  I’ve seen sites that have a counter with all of the country flags.  I need to get that for SuperBlogTime.  If anyone knows what it’s called, tell me in the comments please.
  • Started the “How-To” section with a few good articles on different topics like RSS, Mind Maps and Avatars. I’ve basically been writing a small post every time I learn how to use a new tool or some other trick.
  • Signed up for all the Google products (AdSense, Analytics, Webmaster Tools, AdWords).
  • Joined affiliate programs for Amazon, Apple, ClickBank and GoDaddy.
  • And generally had a very good time learning about what it takes to build a blog!

Next Up

  • Start writing content for my new blog venture.  SuperBlogTime was always meant to be a blog about blogging itself.  It’s been a great way for me to learn the process.  Of course I’ll continue SuperBlogTime but the next blog will be much more fun!  Hopefully, I will be able to announce it some time in the next few weeks.
  • I have a few articles for SuperBlogTime that I’m working on and they should be ready later this week.  One of them is almost done so I know it will be posted soon.  It’s about finding royalty free images for your blog or website.

Well, that’s it!  It’ been a good month and I’m sure it will only get better from here.

SuperBlogTime – Week 2

SuperBlogTime Evolves

We’ve made major progress this week!

Share SuperBlogTime with Everyone in the Universe!

SuperBlogTime now has links for social media sites like Facebook so all you have to do is click on the link below an article and voila – the incredibly interesting article you were reading is posted to your Facebook page!  Try it – I dare you.  Really…go ahead.

Send Me E-mail at the New SuperBlogTime Address!

My new e-mail account for SuperBlogTime is now set up and running.  I even managed to set it up for my iPhone!  You can send messages to curtis@superblogtime.com. Again – I dare you to try it.  Right now.  Hurry.

Forum Participation – I’m Chatting Up a Storm

I’ve been talking up SuperBlogTime on a few discussion forums.  I’m not really trying to get the blog out there for traffic reasons or anything yet – I’m still too much of a noob – but I have found some very helpful response from a few people.  My two favorite forums so far are at Bloggeries.com and Authority Blogger Forum.

New Domain Registered

SuperBlogGroup was registered this week as well.  Eventually, SuperBlogTime will have some friends to hang out with.  I would like to create a few more blogs about topics other than blogging.  That’s a long time off but I thought I’d scoop up the domain name now just in case.  I purchased it through GoDaddy.com.

I’m so excited!  I looked in the spam filter this morning and I have officially received my very fist spam comment!  The spam robots have found SuperBlogTime!  That means that real humans might find it soon too.  Cool.

Here’s the spam message.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

As of today, SuperBlogTime and I have been together for 7 days!  I’ve decided that I should take SuperBlogTime to brunch to celebrate.  We’ll be going to one of my favorite spots in San Francisco called Foreign Cinema.   If you’re ever in San Francisco I highly recommend it.  It’s a little pricey but well worth it (SuperBlogTime best appreciate it).

So let’s see what we’ve accomplished this week.

1.  Basic understanding of domain registration and blogging with WordPress through GoDaddy.com.  I have a lot more to learn but I think I have the basics down.

2.  My first affiliate program link.  The banner ad and the side add are both from GoDaddy.com.  I decided to join their affiliate program because I’ve been very happy with their service so far.  Don’t think I won’t rip it off my site in a second if they make me angry though – watch it GoDaddy.

3.  A few very nice people have started leaving comments on the site (thanks mom).

4.  The site has been submitted to the major search engines.  Google has it sorted.  They have indexed the entire site and seem to do so every few days.  Yahoo still thinks this site is a Japanes anime site (or some such, I don’t read Japanese – jeez, I hope it’s not weird).

5.  As I expected, it takes a long time to get an audience for a blog.  After seven days this site doesn’t even show up on major search engines.  The only way people know that SuperBlogTime exists is when I tell them (or my friends tell people about it – Thanks!).

Goals for Next Week

1.  Install Google AdSense.  I signed up for the service but it apparently takes a few days for the registration to go through.

2.  Start participating on some of the blogger forums.  I have registered at Bloggeries.com, BlogCatalog, and Authority Blogger Forum.

3.  Set up my e-mail account with GoDaddy.com.  Right now all e-mail is going to my personal account.  I want to set up my e-mail as curtis@superblogtime.com.

Final Note

It’s been a good week.  It would have been a great week if I had made any money.  Come on Interwebs – give up the goods!

New rule…

SuperBlogTime has been alive for a whopping four days now.  The official date of birth was April 18, 2010.  Since that day not much has happened.  And by that I mean nothing has happened.  No one has visited that site at all.  Not even spam bots!  I just turned on the Akismet widget on the right side of the screen and as you can see there have been exactly zero spam attempts on this site as of this posting.  Of course, no one has any idea that this site exists yet so that’s understandable.  It sure would be nice to see a comment come through though. Now I understand that it takes time for blogs to be indexed by search engines and I haven’t done anything to advertise this site but it sure would be fun to see if someone has stumbled upon this site during their adventures on the interwebs.  That’s why I am initiating a new rule.  If you visit this site please add a quick comment and say hello – especially if you’re my mother and I’ve asked you to visit the site repeatedly to see how clever your son is and you only looked at it once and then never returned.

Anyway, drop a note and say hello!  Anyone…hello?

Update April 24, 2010:  Still no second visit to the site from my mom.  huh.

What is SuperBlogTime?

That’s a good question. I started this blog to see if an average person with a little spare time on their hands could make money from blogging. Back in the early “Dot Com” days, I worked at a start-up while attending school and, as you can guess, it didn’t work out. When the whole thing went bust I lost about 10k. Not too much compared to some (most) of the people around me at the time but the way I look at it, the interwebs owes me some cash. Don’t get me wrong, I have a decent day job that pays the bills and I’m not looking to get rich from a blog. However, I have some spare time and blogging seemed like an interesting hobby. If I make ANY money in the process it will be a bonus.

As I started researching how a blog was created, I came across more than a few “guides” that made it seem like anyone with a computer could make money almost immediately. Well, I’m taking up the challenge and I plan on describing the entire process here at SuperBlogTime. I’m quite certain that this little adventure will be super awesome and eventually everyone will need t-shirts with a super brilliant logo – but I think I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start small and see what happens.

It would be way too optimistic to say that I’m going to post new material everyday. As I said, I have a good day job and they would definitely frown upon the use of company computers to update my blog. Once or twice a week at this stage is a little more realistic. So come back often and see what kind of blogging shenanigans I get up to. It should be interesting. Or boring. Whatever.
